Consent education based in creativity and connection.

Mia Schachter Consent Educator and Intimacy Coordinator

Hi, I’m Mia.

I’m a writer, consent educator, podcaster, artist, and Intimacy Coordinator for TV, Film, and Theater invested in helping others find their voice. After spending ten years in New York working in theater and visual art, I returned to my hometown of Los Angeles in 2018. My BA in Philosophy, and my academic background in gender studies, ethics, and neuroscience informs my work.

I found consent through Intimacy Coordination and fell in love with it so much that I decided to dedicate my life to making it as widely available as possible. You can see the community that has sprung from this intention on Instagram.

I founded the Consent Wizardry school at the beginning of the pandemic. When TV sets shut down, I decided to offer a consent class on Zoom from my childhood bedroom. It took off from there and became the school you see today.

My approach is integrative, somatic, anti-binary, trauma-informed, anti-carceral, and anti-cancellation.

Consent is much more than permission, or yes and no. It’s a path inward. A way of getting to know yourself, finding your deepest needs and desires, asking for them, recognizing your capacity and limitations, based in authentic self-expression.

I hope you see you in class :)

What do I do?

I found the magic of consent through working with and training in various modalities including Non-Violent Communication, multiple consent frameworks, somatic work, and intimacy coordination. I’ve developed a holistic and embodied approach to consent that takes into account the gut-brain axis, polyvagal theory, trauma, and neurodiversity. I am not a mental health professional.

I trained as an Intimacy Coordinator in 2019 and was one of the first five or so in Los Angeles. You can read about my approach here.

Want to learn to do this work yourself? I offer a Share the Load Educator Program twice a year.

Why and how do I do it?

When I learned about consent in a concrete, full-body, integrative way that tapped into my ability to be mindful, present, to listen, be authentic, and find my confidence, it was as though I had been living in black and white and could suddenly see in color. A veil had been lifted, one that had been placed between me and myself by systems of oppression such as Capitalism (scarcity, urgency, money as the goal), the gender binary, White Supremacy, and Patriarchy, to name a few. My relationship with myself deepened. My body began to heal. I had more energy and creativity began to flow out of me. I experienced more synchronicity and ease in my relationships, and my career became an authentic part of my self-expression. I even began to make more money and feel more resourced.

The Magic of Consent

I learned to listen to my body once I started to understand the link between chronic illness and consent, and that relationship (amongst other things) helped heal my body. I started experiencing synchronicity more and more, and creativity was pouring out of me. My ability to sense and perceive the world around me got much more subtle and heightened. I was finding a lot more flow and I felt much more in touch with source energy or god, and my own abilities that I had had as a kid that I can only describe as psychic started to come back. The world around me was flooded with meaning. I call that kind of listening and following—and what results from it— magic.

Strong boundaries allow us to take down the walls we’ve built to protect ourselves.

My approach is to zoom in so we can slow down, and begin to make the unconscious conscious.

Whether you personally want support in your business or creative life, private consent training, or your business could benefit from the mitigation of power dynamics and enhanced communication to foster creative flow, I can craft a program that fits your needs. My work focuses on both the micro and macro, ranging from interpersonal dynamics to the systemic forms of oppression that insidiously take hold of our minds and hearts.

I believe that confidence is an ethical imperative. When I'm insecure, I leave the moment, stop listening, become judgmental, jealous, and defensive. When I'm able to access confidence, I can be the person I want to be in the world: a person who listens, empathizes, reacts honestly, and stays present.

My story…

I’ve struggled with autoimmune and gut issues over the course of my childhood and still as an adult. As I finally began to understand the scope of what I was dealing with, the start of my healing journey (a journey I’m still on) paralleled my training to be an intimacy coordinator and the two endeavors merged. I explored my boundaries and got deeply in touch with my intuition and what my body needs and I plan to continue this work for the rest of my life. I’m confident that my journey can help make the process of finding and expressing what you need intuitive, self-guided, and easily integrated into your current life. I firmly believe that authenticity is spiritual and physical medicine. As a facilitator of a dialogue between you and your body, I can help you can get in touch with your physical and emotional needs, desires, and instincts. We need to feel safe in order to access play, creativity, and imagination. Together we will cultivate that sense of safety internally and begin to apply it outward.
