Creative Wizardry

Where there’s meaning, there’s magic.

Together, we’ll build the structure and internal sense of safety you need to freely play, explore, and create.

Whether you want to start a new project, build a business based in creativity, move through creative blockages, or rekindle your love of a medium you’ve lost touch with — there’s something here for every kind of artist at any point in your career.

  • feeling like a jack of all trades, master of none

  • seeing all your art as one cohesive body of work

  • feeling like you should choose one thing

  • listening to what your art wants to be

  • pressure from the outside (e.g. “the art market”)

  • comparing yourself to other artists

  • negotiating, setting rates, or even feeling like you should get paid for your art at all

  • starting a project

  • finishing a project

  • calling yourself an artist

  • making something out of nothing

If you’re struggling with…

  • follow through on commitments

  • find flow

  • find your voice

  • express yourself vulnerably and authentically

  • make money off your art while staying in alignment with your values

  • proudly call yourself an artist

  • get cozy with your embarrassment

  • be willing to try and fail and try again

and you want to…

I can help.

With my background in consent education, I can support you in building your own creative container in which you can play.

Hi, I’m Mia.

Mia Schachter

I’m a writer, musician, playwright, performer, and ceramicist with a background in consent education and intimacy coordination for TV, Film, and Theater. Learning about consent triggered a creative boom in my life, and I’m excited to share my practice with others.

With all the pressures of the world we live in to be productive and efficient while making money, it’s easy to rupture the trust and desire required to make your art. With my my consent-based, non-hierarchical approach to art-making, based in devised theater principles, I can support you in finding your voice as an artist in any medium. I want you to have easy access to flow and motivation to create so making your art feels fun.

We’ll go from perfectionist questioning such as, “Is this right?” and, “Is this good?” to consent-based, self-reflective questions such as, “Do I like this?” and, “How does this feel to me?”

CLASSES

Find your flow in a group of artists looking to do the same, while building community and solidarity.

  • Are you too frozen to create for fear of cancelation, scrutiny, or a toxic ex who might contact anyone who works with you? This one’s for you.

  • This program is for artists of all kinds: musicians, creatives, writers, dancers, photographers, choreographers, directors, designers. It’s for people looking to deepen or return to their creative practice and for those looking to embark on one for the first time. If you:

    • are looking for structure

    • feel pressure around making art and want to loosen up

    • want to create something new but don’t know where to start

    • are stuck in the middle of a project and don’t know where to go

    • find it intimidating to create something out of nothing

… this class will provide practical tools, exercises, and assignments to get you out of your head, into your body, and surrender to the creative process, drawing on principles from devised theater.

  • Do you feel like you do too many things? Are you a jack of all trades, master of none? You think the things you do might all be related, but you’re struggling to connect the dots? Have you reached the limits of other forms of support (such as talk therapy), either as a practitioner or a client, and do you want practical tools, skills, vocab, and exercises for yourself and your clients?

This program will help you bring consent work into your art and build a teaching practice and business that sustains your artwork.

I offer these classes periodically, or you can request a session for you and your group!

1:1 coaching

Programs tailored to you and your needs as an artist, in any medium. We can schedule sessions over 8 weeks or 4 months.

  • Through building a practice of self-consent, you will find the boundaries you need to cultivate secure attachment with your creative process.

  • Personalized coaching for your art project using a method I built out of devised theater principles. A non-hierarchical, consent-based approach to art-making using meaningful source material and putting them into conversation with each other to create something larger than the sum of their parts.

  • A tailored program for you and your particular position as a director or project leader giving you the tools you need to navigate consent, boundaries, and power dynamics with performers when you’re in a position of power. This is not intimacy coordination training and isn’t meant to replace an intimacy coordinator, but it will give you the tools, skills, and vocab you need when an IC isn’t available while also supporting you in working with an IC when you have one.

  • For self-employed artists looking to cultivate healthy boundaries with their work as they support their artistic practice through offering coaching or classes.
