This is an article I wrote for Salty World about consent with myself. Read the full article here.
By now we all know what consent means…..or do we? How much do you really know and what can an intimacy coordinator teach you about your current understanding? Alot, it turns out. If you thought consent = permission, this week is for you.
“What does an intimacy coordinator do exactly?” That same day I reached out to Waithe to ask her that question directly, and without skipping a beat she responded, “You should definitely talk to Mia.” Read more here.

Intimacy coordination is a new Hollywood buzz word. In addition to being oh-so-trendy, it’s a job that intrigues sex workers, therapists and stunt performers alike — an audience I’m not sure any other job on the planet can claim. Read the full article here.
“Intimacy coordinators have a skillset and a knowledge bank that I don’t—that no show runner has,” Waithe explained to Refinery29. “Sure, we can write an intimate scene, but we don’t always know how to make sure that actors are really comfortable.” Read more on Refinery29.
You can read about Lena’s production company, Hillman Grad, and their move to make intimacy coordinators standard on their sets. Mia’s intimacy coordination training group, Centaury Co., seeks to train intimacy coordinators currently underrepresented in the field and two of Hillman Grads mentees are enrolled in the program.

“Mia has been navigating sex positivity through art, performance, philosophy, and most recently in coordinating consensual boundaries around intimacy for film and television.” You can listen here.
“As an intimacy coordinator, Mia helps people struggling with self advocacy, boundaries, and communication. Through practice, meditative exercise, different scripts, and a multitude of other different methods, they guide a number of sessions to help boost people’s consent and boundary skills.” You can listen here.
I was interviewed in Broadway World for my work on Wild Party at the Morgan Wixson Theater.
“This week Audrey Moore talks with Intimacy Coordinator Mia Schachter about all things related to sex in your career, on set and off. It's an EXPLICIT episode, but an important one!”
“Most of the time, the initial answer from an actor is, “You can touch me anywhere.” The impulse is completely understandable; actors want to be flexible and game for anything. But what I’ve found is that helping the actors build a solid menu so that anything not on that menu is off the table, is the best way to get them to feel free to play. The restraints help them be creative within a container. If an actor says, “I’m fine with whatever,” that can be paralyzing for their scene partner. If they can say, “You can grab my boobs, you can grab my ass, you can pull my hair like this…” the other actor has concrete ideas of what they can do and feels comfortable to explore.” -Mia Schachter
